Need some help... need to install a firewall


i'm running e-smith ( as the gateway at my workplace. it's a dedicated gateway, mail server, etc. there's no firewall. i need to install a firewall.

when i installed e-smith, it wiped out everything on the HD and installed only the gateway s/w. it's based on linux. how do i install a firewall and make it run on startup??? please tell me a good firewall which is good and which is free. please also tell me how to install it and how to make it run on startup. i'm a newbie. please help.

I am note sure about e-smith, but if you want a good (and free) firewall for Linux, try ipchains or iptables. I am not sure which one (if any) is available on e-smith.
