To do that, create the following directories in your home directory:
.wine/
.wine/c_drive
.wine/c_drive/Windows
.wine/c_drive/Windows/Fonts
.wine/c_drive/Windows/Start Menu/Programs
.wine/c_drive/Windows/System
.wine/c_drive/Windows/System32
.wine/c_drive/Windows/Temp
.wine/c_drive/Program Files
.wine/c_drive/Program Files/Common Files
After this copy the following files from wine-YYYYMMDD/documentation/samples to $HOME/.wine/Windows:
system.ini
win.ini
All applications will be installed on this fake Windows drive. Referred to C: inside of Windows applications.
Wine also needs a configuration file. Copy the file config from wine-YYYYMMDD/documentation/samples to $HOME/.wine.

yes trying to get wine up 100% so i can try to get winamp running, please no comments on xmms as it is not working for me for what ever god forsaken reason, wine is installed and working as i was able to get notepad running and it looked great, well as great as notepad can look.
im running RH9, and just installed wine-20040408-1rh9winehq.i686.rpm from the winehq web page. was a smooth install for me as most of the rpms have been ive played with.
my goal is to A. learn what im doing for both the how and why so i can repeat it in the future on my own. B. see if i can get winamp up and running on my RH9 system.
1st off do i need to make those directories if notepad worked? i also noted that on the FAQ page regarding wine it points to /var/lib/wine yet on my system its installed to /usr/lib/wine, is that a problem, or just something i need to be aware of?
2nd once i download winamp, were do i save it to? .wine/ is not a directory i can see in my /home/USER tree. i tried mkdir .wine/ and got no error, but still even with ls -l could not see the .wine dir.
if i have to make those directories, how do i go about doing so as user and not root?
if i can not see them with the ' . ' how do i access them?
more questions to come regarding this subject.
thank you all for the education.
