Need Replacement for K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, Windows Media Player 11

Hello,

Since I installed linux, one thing is bugging me most, I can't use my Multimedia collection on linux

This is what I do on windows, to be able to play almost any media format, Install latest version of K-Lite Mega Codec pack, which includes systems codecs, MediaPlayer Classic,

My player of preference is Windows Media Player 11(For it's library management, SRS Effects, Graphics Equiliser & Quite Mode)

How can I substitute this this combination on linux, I tried Mplayer, but it dosen't even gets compiled & it's codecs aren't system codecs they are just for itself. Is there any system codec pack, which when installed will let me play any media format using any player which uses system codec?

And what about Media Player or Real Player (for Windows) anything in linux comes close to that (Amarok & Bunshee seemed nice, but I need MP3 codec for it to work)

Thanks.

Mplayer and it's codecs work for me. They can play every conceivable format. Make sure you grab the latest source (I think it's pre8) and compile it. Also make sure you have the essential codec pack, and that should be enough.

Which distro are you running? Some make it easier than others to install mp3 capabilities. Also, you could try Audacious (can use WMP skins (but only classic)).

I'm currently using SuSE 10.1, but I'm going to install FC 6 when it will release in next week.

I'm still unable to install MPlayer, it's giving error on compiling, be because I had only 3 of 5 Suse CD's when installing & some libraries might be missing.

for videos etc i use vlc which imho is one of the best media players i have every had the pleasure of using . it will play pretty much any format. For music i use xmms it is very similar to win amp.

I like either mplayer or xine for video since both play almost any kind of video.
For music I use amarok, though xmms is more like winamp and more lightweight.
