Need .php and mysql software for SUSE 5.2
You guys are so helpful, I've now got my ethernet card working
and I'm ready to move to phase 2 of the development cycle.
This involves installing php and mysql to run and modify
facebook applications. The problem is that there seem to be
no download sites for Linux .php which don't refer you to the
OS developer (not avail...) or try and give you windows code
(hut-spah!).
Anyone know where I can get installable binaries for SUSE 5.2?
Thanks again!

Uhhh...SuSE 5.2 is so old, it'll probably turn into crude oil in a few weeks. The latest version of server (to my knowledge), is 9.x. OpenSuSE is 11.0. Both of these come with PHP and MySQL binaries on the install disks.
You can install both PHP and MySQL from source code. Did you try to check their pages??
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.1.html has source code link at the bottom of the page.

That's moving me forward but I've never done a Linux
compilation and install before and I'm frightened...
Is there a quick way around this? or some guidance on
running the comp?
I went to Alabama once, did some laundry in Leeds en
route to New Orleans.
Thanks

Nothing complex about it, and most software comes complete with step-by-step installation instructions. Alot even have auto-configure scripts that do most of the work for you. Best way to do it is to download it, read the instructions, and move forward.
The REALLY best way to do it, would be to upgrade that ancient system.

I'm actually more inclined to look at the upgrade option
provided it can run in a box with 64 meg...
What would be your suggested upgrade path?
For simplicity I'm looking at the windows 2000 environment
but having got the box this far I'd prefer to stick
with Linux if I can!
Cheers and thanks again

64MB? Windows 2000??
The best thing I could recommend would be to upgrade everything. If you've only got 64MB of RAM, your system is probably a bit old too. Get some current hardware, and you'll probably have no problems loading whatever you want. The more current the hardware, and the older the software, the better the chances the software won't know what to do with it.
