Question Need Linux Domino backup solution

I need a Linux backup solution for RedHatServer7.3 running Lotus Domino 6. My first choice is to not use a solution that will require stopping the domino deamon to backup the data, but will use as a last resort.

I've looked into Arkeia software, but its not worth waiting until they get all the bugs out of the software (backup fails & domino crashes if domino6 was not installed using the default configuration settings - this has been confirmed with their tech support dept).

Could any of you point me in the direction of a better solution?

Thanks a bunch!
-Jon

A couple of options...

You could try a couple of things that may help:

1. Try using Domino's transaction logging features. These can be backed up when full without taking the server off-line. Downside is that you may have to spend a little more time working on the build of your kit.. transaction logging eats disk I/O.

2. Use a second server. Build another server as a Domino cluster (i.e. all Domino databases are shared between the two servers). When you need to perform a backup, take one of the servers off-line and do a backup. This has the added advantage that with both servers running you should get better performance/resiliance etc. Downside is that you do need another server.

Last of all you can try TSM (tivoli storage manager), which I understand comes with a plug in for Domino on Linux that allows open-databases to be backed up.

Hope this helps!
