Need kernel compilation help

I was wondering if someone could help me configure my kernel. I've recompliled it 4-5 times now, but I can't seem to get it right.
I'll list my hardware, and hope that you can give me some advice.

Processor: Intel P4 3.0C GHz, HT
Motherboard: Some fujitsu siemens model, Intel i865PE chipset
RAM: 1024MB Samsung PC3200 DDR
DVD-RW/CD-RW: NEC ND-1100A
Harddrives: Seagate ST3160021A, and another drive, not sure what brand it is. Probably samsung, just a regular harddrive.
Gfx: ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Network adapter: Built in Intel 100/PRO VE
Audio: Creative Audigy 2
Mouse: Logitech MX700
Keyboard: Microsoft Natural Multimedia Keyboard

I hope thats it, let me know if I forgot something :)

Post the error messages that you get.

Did the compilation itself go wrong with some errors. Or the compilation was done, but the system won't boot in your custom kernel.

Be a little more specific in your queries here, so that we can help you more easily.

You can read a good guide here;
http://home.iprimus.com.au/otutty/Intro.html

Post information about what is going wrong and what you are already attempting to do.

What distrobution are you running?

The error messages comes when I boot linux. It says the harddrives aren't using DMA mode for some reason, and my ethernet card isn't detected, and when it does some usb thing I get a lot of unresolved symbol errors.

I will check out that guide, thanks :)

I'm running gentoo, latest version.
