Need help with vlc player
 
can anyone help me abut vlc player in fedora 9. I have installed vlc player by typing
yum install vlc
and some 2.?? mb of data installed and I can see the vlc player in applications/sound&video but when I click on it vlc is not opened and no message is displayed.

Open a terminal and execute the command:

$ vlc

What is the output/error msgs?

I got the following output
[root@Peer ~]# vlc
VLC is not supposed to be run as root. Sorry.
If you need to use real-time priorities and/or privileged TCP ports

I know that this is about that I will have to switch to some other user except root but I dont want to do this as when I logged as different user then I can not make modifications in the files that are stored on my system FAT drives, created by root. and I have a lot of data of such kind which I need time to time.
