need help with root access

hi all
im using RH 8, i had a problem with my su file before, and i fixed it using chmod u+s /bin/su with root account

yesterday i configured my sshd to restrict root login using "permitrootlogin no" in /etc/ssh/sshd_config

and now i have the same problem with su again, the ironic thing is i can't login as root anymore and my server is in remote place.

is there anyway i can gain root access again? remotely?

thanks in advance
desperately need help

Try using single user mode to repair your configuration. See:http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/l...ng-single.html

In case you managed to lock that out too, try a rescue disk. See: http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/l...escuemode.html

Edit: Noticed the part about this being a remote site. You may need on site assistance. Probably a dumb question, but did you leave telnet or rlogin open? Maybe you are going to have to find a 13 year old hacker somewhere.
