Need Help With Gnome Pilot

I'm trying to set up Gnome pilot on SUSE 10 so I can sync my Treo 650.

I run Gnome Pilot under Applications->System->Configuration->Palm OS Devices

The default cradle settings for port are: /dev/pilot, with "serial" selected as the type. I change type to "USB" since I sync with the USB cable.

Since I've synced with Windows in the past, I click "Yes, I've used sync software with this pilot before."

With the cable plugged into one of the three USB ports on my Vaio FS620 laptop, I click next, which takes me to the "Initial sync" screen "About to retrieve UserName and ID from the pilot. Please put pilot in Cradle (/dev/pilot) and press HotSync button." I follow the instructions and nothing happens.

I know Linux is able to detect things when I plug them into the USB ports, 'cuz I've never had a problem with my USB pen drive.

I'm new to Linux and this is the last bug I need to work out before I'm totally convinced Windows is a thing of the past.

Could you try typing "tail -f /var/log/messages" from a console whilst logged in as root, then plug in your Treo and turn it on. You should see a load of lines flashing through detailing the device it's found, what port it's runnign on, etc. If it does, change the port in your GnomePilot setup to what displayed in the messages. Otherwise, let us know exactly what is shown in /var/log/messages (hopefully something!).
