Question Need help w/ Mandrake 7.0 install Please

I am trying to install Mandrake 7.0, using linx4win. When I start the install process I get a message that says: VFS Cannot open root device 08:01
Kernel Panic VFS Unable to mount root fs on 08:01
then it hangs and the only way to get it to do anything is a control alt del. I have tried redhat and caldera on same computer and have been able to get caldera to make it once. The other times I get a message about the same as above about not being able to mount root. I am installing from cd on an HP 600 mhz Celeron laptop with 96 meg ram. Any help would be greatly appreciated, anyone feel free to contact me at my email address or by icq if you know a possible problem. Thanks Again
Dave

Any particular reason why you need to run it on windows, I use windows too, but running one os on another makes no sense at all. If you create a free partition to install it on you can dual boot.

I have tried to install on linux partition.

Well, I have tried to install redhat, caldera, and mandrake on their seperate partitions using partition magic. I was unable to get any of these to make it through the installation because of this "kernel panic" message. So i thought I would try it this way. I would love to remove Winblows from my machine all together, but until I am up to speed with the operations of Linux I can't afford to do that. But to answer your question, I have tried it. Thanks for the help.
Dave
