Need help upgrading to GTK 2.4 on Fedora

Hello all,

I am trying to upgrade to GTK 2.4 on my Fedora box. I compiled gtk, pango, glib and atk and installed them (--prefix=/usr). I have two problems since then:

1. On next reboot, after the graphical boot I didn't get the login but an error message saying that the X server was already running on display 0 and whether it try a new display number. Choosing either yes or no did not help and I could not get the login screen. I switched to another console and did "startx".

How can I fix this?

2. GTK 2.4 does not seem to be installed. I still get the old file chooser for example. Ran ldconfig. The symlinks seem to point to the new 4.00 versions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

did you solve?

I'm having the same troubles on my Slackware 9.1...

I also had to copy themes' engines from the old 2.2 directory to the new one, and I have troubles with SVG graphics, too: it says that it couldn't find mime-type of images, and Gnome-Panel doesn't show SVG icons, but Nautilus (on desktop) does...

And, one more, panel-applet "Modem-lights" (I think in English are so-called, I use the Italian Versione and the name of the applet is "Spie Modem") doesn't work: it allow me to connect and disconnect but I can't see connection-status, flashing lights and graphics.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks, and sorry for my English, I'm Italian...

--edit--

PS: Oh, I forgot... Some other troubles

- Fonts got worse, but I think it happened because of my adventures with FreeType
- In gnome-terminal I can't use anymore CTRL+SHIFT+T to open a new tab, it seems I don't press CTRL button, but I do!
