Need Help Updating Wireless Driver on Linux Mint

I'm running Linux Mint 15 on a HP Envy 14 laptop that has an Intel Centrino N-6200 wifi card in it. I fooled around with the driver a while back and screwed it up - now I have wifi for about 10 minutes, if I am lucky, through the internal card. I currently use an external wifi card to use internet.

I downloaded the iwlwifi-6000-ucode-9.221.4.1.tgz package from:
http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wl...034398.htm

The file is a .ucode which I have no idea how to install.

ndiswrapper -l shows I am trying to use bcmwl5 which is an invalid driver. iwconfig confirms this by not showing a wlan0. How can I install the .ucode driver on my system?

This would be a huge help, so thanks in advance!

Um. Ok. Open a terminal. Copy and paste my command. Type in your password.

Code:
sudo mintwifi
Copy and paste readout in code tags (# mark in toolbar in advanced reply toolbar)

I'd remove the external wifi card first when running that command though. We only want to see what is going on with that chip.

Also

Code:
inxi -Fxx
terminal readout in codetags will be needed also.
Howdy and Welcome to LQ.

Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)
utility, e.g. service smbd reload

Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an
Upstart job, you may also use the reload(8) utility, e.g. reload smbd

Ok. See that. iwlwifi module/driver

is already loaded. All you need do is connect to wlan0 in whatever Network Gnome uses. I use Mate in Mint. Not Cinnamon or Gnome or KDE. So the connection steps, passphrase, encrption, is not familiar to me with those Desktop environments.

I downloaded the iwlwifi-6000-ucode-9.221.4.1.tgz package from:

The file is a .ucode which I have no idea how to install.
No need to install that. It is just a connection issue where what ever you are using to connect with , Network manager? Is the issue. Not a driver. When you get connected. You will look like mine

Code:
$ inxi -n
Network: Card-1: Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) driver: ath9k
           IF: wlan0 state: up mac:
see where it says up instead of down like yours. wlan0 is your wireless interface showing. Just not connected by you.
