need help to compile r300 open source driver from http://r300.sourceforge.net/

I am trying to compile r300 ATI Radeon open source driver from http://r300.sourceforge.net/
I read the README from their cvs tree but it didn't help me much. The last step from their README saying that

Compile and install the r300 driver from within the Mesa tree.

The compilation went throught smoothly until it started to compile the r300 driver.

Anyone has any luck to compile this open source driver?
