Need HELP SSH X11 Forwarding
Hello all,
I am trying to get my xwindows when I am remote from my network. I believe I have ssh set up ok in the config file. I use a gateway/firewall in front of my network. Was curious if the firewall was blocking it?? Does this connection just go over one port that is configured in the sshd_config ? When I type in startx the server starts the xwindows but nothing on my remote computer, just errors like fatal i/o errors etc. I am using putty.exe on my work computer and kind of confusing setting putty for enable x11 forwarding localhost:10 ?? or 0 ? Any changes on the server sshd is restarted. Any help in the right direction would be appreciated, I love command line but the xwindows would be nice. Thanks, Rick |
If you're using putty on your work PC I guess it's running windows - do you have a windows X server (e.g. cygwin-x http://x.cygwin.com/) running? If so, but things still aren't working, the docs at http://www.seas.ucla.edu/seasnet/Docs/ssh/windows.htm or http://rc.vintela.com/topics/X_putty_openssh/ might help with config settings.

Hi gilead,
Thanks for the reply back. I am using Slackware 10.2 on my network and XP on the work computer. Like usual with Linux I am almost there with certain things to work. Will look over your URL's for info. Thanks, Rick |
