need help recovering files on an ext2 file system

I have 3 partitions on my 40GB hard disk, one for XP, second for SuSE 8.2 and third was empty until last nigth when i decided to install debian woody on it.
now during the installation, i did something to my SuSE 8.2 partition(i am not saying formatted since my file system is still intact and i can see the lost+found directory in the root folder) abd all the files are gone from it...there is nothing of my SuSE left in there.
I was wondering if there is newayz of getting the files back...i need to have a few very important documents with i would really appreciare if someone could tell me how i can recover my files from an ext2 file system.

Actually, you may very well have formatted it, because when you format a partition, at least with ext2 or 3, it creates the lost+found automagically. If that's the only things that's left, I'd say that's what happened.
