Need help on data cards connecting 3G, HSDPA, GPRS

Hi! I've recently heard a new gadger from local telco provider regarding a breakthrough technology. They call it "visibility". Basically, its a device which you will need to attach in your laptop's PCMCIA slot. This device was pre-installed with a SIM (Subscribers' Identification Module) card which is used by most GSM phones. The main purpose of this device is to enable subscribers to gain access to the internet anywhere as long as you have a reception (cellphone signal). The connection can be done using 3G/HSDPA (whenever it is present in the area) and GPRS. I asked them if they will be able to install it on my laptop since I have Simply Mepis 6.0 as my main OS. They told me that they can't and it's only possible that the device can only be installed on Windows OS. Does anyone know if the said device is supported by Linux? And if possible, what packages/applications/softwares I need to install to get this up and running. For me, it is just a simple interface but I need to know the details. I really don't want to spend $ 40.00/mos for three years and find this thing useless on my OS. Please help.

Hard to say for sure. Depends on hardware itself. Doubt the distro will make any difference. A quick google search showed many links on the subject. I post a couple that might give you a start.

Found this one from one of the post here.

Just curious if you had any luck using one of these type of cards and what you have done to get it to work.

I tried googling and found about this site:

Tried it and it worked on mine. Just be sure that your linux distro can detect your Data Card. However, the GPRS is just too slow and the 3G is not yet perfected here in our country.

Thanks for the link. Will keep a note of it.
