Hello everyone,

I need help from someone who is experienced in multibooting:

Recently I had wiped my Fedora 27 OS to Upgrade to Fedora 28 KDE 64 bit. I had this idea while watching Goose-tech's multiboot video on youtube to try multibooting for the first time. I installed Windows 10 Pro as a fresh install. This is the link to the video from Goose-Tech's channel:

I follow the multiboot procedure which seems straightforward but for some reason the new USB that has Fedora 28 on it says that It can't find a disk after selecting test media and run Fedora 28 pre-installation option. This is impossible since I have an 88 GB unallocated partition I had created through Windows 10 to install Fedora.

Is there something wrong with the image I downloaded from the Fedora web site? I have used Pendrive Linux UUI installer to create the Fedora 28 image on my San Disk USB. Am I selecting USB instead of Disk on the boot options of my computer?

Yes. Windows 10 pro which is my primary OS is working 100% correctly. My two SSD's on my PC are recognized both by Windows and my Bios of my laptop. I just downloaded Fedora media writer for Windows. I'm going to redownload the image and use that to make my live usb.

At partitioning, maybe the second SSD must be selected.

Do you use GPT and is your windows then an EFI install?
Did you turn off fast boot and anything related to hibernation before trying to install Fedora?
Do you have unallocated space created by shrinking a windows partition on one of the SSD's? What else is on the SSD?

If you intend to use EasyBCD to boot, you might be better off at the neosmart forums or some windows forum as this is windows software.

Normally, Gurb2 is used, when Linux is installed in parallel to Win.

hmmm i don't think we are in the same page. You know when you restart your pc and then select boot options in the bios? I select my USB. I see Fedora 28 select menu options such as do you want to run fedora 28 live or test the media and then run it. I select either and it gives me an error stating there is no disk for installation. The Fedora OS image doesn't even boot. It gives me an error stating the UI under /dev is missing. So I restart my pc into Windows 10 pro, check Fedora live files in my usb and I don't see that under the dev folder sure enough UI is missing.

This is a dangerous proposition with Fedora. You shouldn't erase a working Fedora installation to 'upgrade'. You should attempt to install the new Fedora in parallel with the existing.

If it is the KDE image then quite possibly. Was this the release image or a live respin ?

Two days ago I tried installing the KDE live respin dated June 2. It froze halfway during the installation three times. I downloaded the latest version dated July 22 and it installed fine yesterday.

If you aren't using this latest re-spin you should try that.

I don't think I need to select my second SSD though??? I mean every youtube video I have seen was installing their second OS on their main drive through a partition they created. I have heard that you need to install grub 2; however, I also heard its buggy. According to the video I posted in my original post you don't need to install grub as the live OS and EasyBCD will install it for you. Do you think I should just install grub 2 on my unallocated space on my main drive? If so how do you go about it?

Yeah my Windows 10 pro install is EFI; however, I didn't use GPT. I used DBAN(Darik's Boot and Nuke) and Once the disk wiping was done I performed a successful clean installation. Once in my Win10 OS, I installed my drivers then went into disk manager and shrank the volume to create the unallocated 88gb space. Nothing else is in the SSD at the moment just plain Windows 10. Yeah, I know but since it's relating to Linux as well(I'm a Unix like/Linux user myself) intend to find other solutions if EasyBCD doesn't work. This is where you guys can help.

Really? I always back up my data and then DBAN after that install any Unix/Linux OS and works perfectly fine. The reason I decided to wipe my disk and try multibooting is when I upgrade from Fedora 25 to 27 through the terminal command line, it messed up a few things especially downloading the custom driver from GitHub for my Corsair M65 RGB mouse. Don't get me wrong. The driver worked and mouse was working flawless but I needed both OS's also(Windows and Fedora) as I recently graduated with my programming degree. I wanted to get my feet wet in both OS's and dev on various projects. I also have been learning penetration testing particularly in the focus of web hacking. I think its just easier to boot into them than just created VM's on VB all the time plus performance will be fully dedicated to the OS's individually as I boot into one or the other. Back to the topic...

Interesting... I never knew you had to DL Fedora along side with the existing version.

The previous iso was the live image I downloaded the day of my original post. I currently just finished a new fedora 28 kde image from https://spins.fedoraproject.org/kde/download/index.html

I believe its the release version although it says live on it... I got fedora media writer which I downloaded from the fedora website as well. I'll keep you guys posted although I will be a black hat con this weekend so I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Is this then the first time an install has not gone perfectly fine for you ? With new Fedora releases problems are normal. On the Fedora Forum a forum dedicated to Fedora one of the administrators only installs respins after a release has been out for a while. Respins have all of the bug fixes up to a certain date.

It's not a law but good practice with Fedora. You don't 'have' to do this but many Fedora users dual boot the new and previous distributions. As you are now finding out upgrading does not always work. Fedora releases are often bug-filled while the previous supported versions may work fine. This is just good advice that I would give to anyone considering Fedora. I don't know where your anger comes from. As your are a LQ Newbie with 20 posts I was trying to be helpful with advice that I would give to anyone considering Fedora.

If you need to use Fedora right now for something you could have kept using Fedora 27. Many Fedora users only upgrade when they have to.

This release image is now nearly three months old. It isn't really new. The live respin I mentioned has all of the bug fixes up to July 22. If your install failed because of a bug in the release version downloading the same version again won't fix anything.

As I mentioned in my post the respin for June 2 failed but that of July 22 worked fine.

Yes this is the very first time Fedora has failed to install for me. I had used Fedora twice previously and waited months later to then upgrade with a new install. I will take your advice on the respins.

So I guess the primary question I should ask you is... Should I install grub 2 or boot into usb, install Fedora on unallocated space(which will install grub) then once it finishes find the bootloader and create it on EasyBCD like in the YouTube video???? Or.... Is there a better method?

Easy bcd doesn't work on an uefi system. The computer in the video you referenced is booting in legacy mode. If you look closely at the windows disk managment section in the video there is no efi partition.
Boot into the usb, grub2 will be installed during the installation of fedora, if everything goes right
