Need Help Compiling program (./confgure scrpt does not work)

HI Everyone

I am new to this form and new to Linux world as well. I am trying to install netscape on my system. I have downloaded the .tar.gz file. I performed following.

1. tar -xvzf <FILENAME.tar.gz>
-- it worked and new folder was created

Then I went to the new folder and tried following.
2. ./configure

this scipt does not work at all. Its very confusing. i have already spent 4 hours and still did not come up with a solution. Also just to let you know i tried to experiment with some other .tar.gz files and was not succesful. Seems like i dont have the script on my system.

I am currently using RED HAT LINUX 8.00

I would appreciate your help.

Thanks
Ahsan

what do you mean by "this script does not work at all"

Exact error messages are important here.

Good Day

You probably have some failed dependencies for the Netscape, post your error messages that come up at the end of the ./configure script, this will also tell you what is missing and what needs to be loaded.

Cheers

Have you read the installation instructions? Not all applications in tar.gz format are distributed as source code. The tar.gz is mainly a form of archive like zip or rar in Windows. This is about an older version (Netscape 6) but I would bet on that it works with your version too
