Need Help Choosing Distribution
.::newbie::. Ok I am building a brand new PC and want to run linux on it. I am not familiar with linux at all and have only ran windows, but i am a fast learner and i am very technical.I am looking for a free distribution that has windows program capability because I want to run Macromedia Studio MX on it, and i also want to run CS on it. Since this is a fresh computer, it will have no drivers on it. Does linux accept windows drivers or will i have to download special ones? .::confused::. I am considering these distributions so far: ARK LINUX ELX LINUX I also want to know if there is a free version of Suse and how to get it. I know there are better free distributions out there, tell me which one is best! .::Pengy::. THANKS! .::D:. |
well first off try using a darker type, rather then blue on blue, as its hard to see...second you poll has nothing in it, and third your not going to be able to run studio mx...you will have a chance of running flash and dreamweaver with the help of Wine and you will also need wine to play cs...and i can tell you that it works fine with wine....
second my suggestions are : mandrake redhat slackware and yes there is a free version SuSe |

I have always been a huge fan of Mandrake not that I have been using it that long, most of the time it does what I want actually it does do what I want until I start playing to get more out of it. One thing, just because you know about Windows doesn't make your Linux experience any easier, heck I've been using Windows since the 3.1 days and then took the step into Linux and got lost very very easily, I still remember my first encounter with Linux and it wasn't pretty. I am just starting to get a grip on the basic commands but still have a long way to go I am proficient in anyway. My personal opinion is unless you have a purpose for it ie server of some kind it isn't going to do a great deal for you. It's not quite at the point of windows in terms of usability or more to the point being user friendly although I have no doubt in my mind it will get to that stage eventually. Windows drivers you won't be able to use on Linux well to the best of my knowledge you can't anyway. EDIT: To install Suse I would imagine you would simply need the appropriate CD ie off the net, burn them to a CD or two or three depending on how many cds then whack it in your CD drive and away you go. |
