What I need is something between wp and te--leaning more towards the te. This is probably a 'cake and eat it too' issue. I've tried all the wp I could find and I don't think they are going to work, way too fancy.
geany can do that too.
just saying, in case kde dependencies are too much.

ok, so supposing we have the text editor vs word processor thing out of the way, this does not sound like a software issue to me.
are you aware that
a) text editors usually use tabs to open multiple documents (geany definitely does)?
b) you have VIRTUAL DESKTOPS on linux? try Ctrl+Alt+ArrowKey, e.g. Ctrl+Alt+Right
c) you can switch between open windows with Alt+Tab?
I've used LM less than 3 mo, I haven't even begun to explore all the ins-n-outs. Once I get all the minor issues solved, I'm even going to use the terminal! Anyway, I've decided to use Kate for awhile, see how that goes. You guys have been great with all your different suggestions. THX so much. I'm positive I'll need your help in the future,so........I'll be back.
