What linux are you using?

You can try gnome-dictionary. It came installed with my Redhat 9. It's very simple and easy to use.

The KDE dictionary is called "kdict". The interface is a bit more complex, but I believe it has more or less the same functionality as gnome-dictionary.

Drop a line if you can't get one of those to work...

Cheers,
Pat

A good English-English (non-online) dictionary that works with Linux is hard or impossible to find. I wrote to Merriam-Webster about the problem and was told that there just isn't enough demand to make it feasible for them to port their electronic products to Linux.

Maybe someday...
