Need an application that takes a few seconds to test some speed up techniques

there is this ARM9 SAM9G25 embedded device, which I like to improve its performance. I'm using Buildroot 2013.10 to generate the bootable Linux 2.6.39 images.

There are some methods I'd like to apply (e.g.: execute from Flash - XIP, or readahead). Unfortunately I can't think of an application that fits my needs. Does somebody have an Idea, what App can be installed easily and takes a few seconds until it's finished on the 400 MHz CPU?

You could write a simple program to eg find all primes up to a given max number.
Do it the simple/long way ie no short cuts.
Make the max num a param and just up it until it takes 'long enough'
