Need a Share Calendar Application

I have a select few users (finance dept.) at work who want to be able to write to a calendar based program on the network that allows them to schedule time / days off. The calendar or program needs to be writable by only a few administrators so that once time off is approved by their manager, he or she is the one who would access the application and submit the entry on it's specified date / time. I would prefer if the back end is SQL database compatible but doesn't need to be since at this point I need to find anything that will fulfill this request. Obviously this sounds like a web / php based application that would run on my Apache Intranet web server but if you guys know anything that would work, please let me know.

Most organizations have MS Exchange. For better or worse (and personally, I *hate* Outlook) that's a logical first choice.

Another good alternative is Google Calendar.

But no, I probably wouldn't write something from scratch - there are too many prêt-à-porter solutions you can choose from ;)

No, this a DoD network and no Microsoft products especially exchange is authorized. Exchange can share calendars via Microsoft Outlook but I don't see how that is a logical solution for the request above. I could maybe see Microsoft Sharepoint but that's way overkill for such a simple request.

try this,
http://www.rho.cc/index.php/calendar...er-on-centos-5

this may partly answer your request , am not sure about the latter part which involves "writable for admin's" , am working on something similar , will share once i figure it out

Thanks,
Ram

There is an online service that does something similar: https://www.timesolver.com/page.php?pgID=30

If you need a custom program, you should just code it. If you are a proficient php programmer you could knock out a request form, admin console and calendar pretty quickly. There are enough calendar snippets out there to be able to quickly use and modify for the purpose.
