ndiswrapper on fedora 5

I thought installing this would be easy from an rpm but its not.

I have read the guide fedoraforums.org but it confuses me.

I have ndiswrapper-0.10-3.2.i586.rpm and double clicked it and it said that it installed. I went into terminal and typed "ndiswrapper" to see if it installed but got the following error, "bash: ndiswrapper: command not found".

How do I install it?

Ndiswrapper commands are only accessible by root, so make sure you "su -" first before trying to use them.

it may not be in your path use the command 'whereis ndiswrapper' and it'll output the directory for you. i'm using fc5 and the command is

[brynn@home ~]$ /usr/sbin/ndiswrapper

but you still have to be root

There may be instructions on using it in /usr/share/doc/packages/ndiswrapper/.

I would recommend browsing to the ndiswrapper wiki to download the windows driver that works best for your wireless device.

Ok thanks, seems that I was missing the "-" from "su".

Just tried to install the driver and it says "couldn't copy Mrv8000c.INI at /usr/sbin/ndiswrapper line 144."

I know this driver works because it was working in Linspire.

Shouldn't it be ".INF", rather than ".INI"?

When i first tried to use ndiswrapper it was a complete bas***d, i tried and tried but no luck. I kept on getting that line 144 error and invalid driver error. I think it was a problem with the .INF and .SYS extensions because when i changed the file names to .inf and .sys it worked first time. I'm not sure if i was just lucky on the last try but i think ndiswrapper might have been case sensitive. It's worth giving a go if you havent done it yet.

couldn't copy bcmw15a.inf at /usr/sbin/ndiswrapper line 144

I'm trying to get ndiswrapper to work on my Dell Latitude D600 with FC5. I've tried just about everything that I can think of to get it to work. I've installed ndiswrapper using YUM and I keep getting the 'couldn't copy bcmw15.inf at /usr/sbin/ndiswrapper line 144' error. I uninstalled it and then tried the latest download from soucreforge with version 1.21. I went through and installed it like kayoss717 wrote in Ndiswrapper in Fedora Core 5 and I still get the same 'couldn't copy bcmw15.inf at /usr/sbin/ndiswrapper line 144' error. I'm using the bcmw15a.infdriver that I got from Dell - R76521na.EXE driver download. I know that this driver work, because I've loaded Knoppix and used that driver with ndiswrapper there and it works great. Does anyone have clues as to what might be going wrong. Thanks

It should be "bcmwl5a.inf". The character after "bcmw" is the letter "el" and not the number "one".
