nautilus not recognising blank cd

I'm trying to use Nautilus as my CD burning app to save installing something else but it doesn't seem to recognise the blank CD in my drive. If I put a data CD in there I con mount it and use it no worries so it's not the drive. I couldn't mount the blank one obviously because it doesn't have a filesystem and I'm at a loos as to what else I can play with to make it work.

Any tips would be appreciated :)

I read what you said about not wanting to install more software but you may want to try something else to burn CD's. I didn't care much for Nautilus for trying to burn CD's.

K3B works great. Very familiar to a Nero user. Same kind of interface.
You can also try XCDRoast.

From shell you can use
cdrecord

See the man pages for it
man cdrecord.

K3B is nice though.
