Nautilus: using FTP functionality

I finally got nautilus to open a FTP (with password ) site by entering :

ftp://yourname:yourpassword@yourftpsite.com

I can perfectly "see" all the files, and I can even copy stuff to the site by simply draging and dropping into the window.

what I *can not* get it to do is to copy *from* the site I am looking at.. it starts trying to copy then pops up with :
error "invalid parameters while copying "ftp:/....

Any ideas?

BTW
Nautilus 2.0.6 on redhat 8.0
