Mythtv migrate recordings

I've been supporting a Mythbuntu setup for my parents, but one day I ran the updates and it broke something or other - I don't remember what. In an attempt to fix it, I would up doing a distribution upgrade to 9.10. That broke darn near everything. As it stands now, we have no audio (all applications insist an ALSA, and the system absolutely refuses to provide anything but Pulse). It also ceased to play nice with the previously-functioning nvidia drivers and lirc remote.

So I did a clean reinstall on another partition of the same machine, leaving my first installation intact. The clean install works much better, but of course does not have any of the old recordings.

I tried mounting the old /var/lib partition and symlinking /var/lib/mysql, /var/lib/mythtv, /var/lib/mytharchive/ and /var/lib/mythdvd (everything clearly mythtv-related) to point to the originals, but after restarting mysql and mythtv-backend, the mythtv frontend simply reports that it cannot connect to the database.

To be clear, I would ideally like to work a solution so that the old /var/lib could just become the new /var/lib (that partition holds most of the space on the device), but it's on a logical volume, so I have some flexibility there.

Any ideas?
