MythTV Issues - XMLTV and No Sound
Equipment
SUSE 10 (At some stage I’ll be trying to setup myth on Mandriva 2006, Ubuntu and FC4) Leadtek Winfast TV2000XP Expert Soundblaster Live! 7.1 24-bit MythTV 0.18 1. XMLTV I want to get my South African TV listings from this site. I want to get the full schedule which is downloadable in gz form (filename.xml.gz). I have no clue what to do once I have downloaded this file in order for mythtv to see it as a source. Is the fact that the TV feed is coming through the Composite source going to affect anything? 2. Sound I am able to see Live TV. However there is no sound (If it helps anything when I use the Winfast software in XP there is sound). I am using the ALSA drivers that come with SUSE 10. I can hear sound when starting up, playing music through amaroK and watching DVDs. I have tried to set the sound device as ALSA:default in mythtv-setup but it keeps on reverting back to /dev/dsp. How can I get the sound to work? |
go here for mythtv questions there is an answer for everthing, if not someone will figure it out.

On the xmltv issue, using mythfilldatabase --file 1 -1 /path/to/xmlfile did the trick.

On the sound thing, check your alsamixer settings. I can't remember exactly what's supposed to be unmuted, but here's what I have unmuted (and volume=~75% each) and it works:
Master, Master Mono, PCM, CD, Aux You could also try unmuting everything in alsamixer, setting each individual volume to 75%, and see it that works. Then you could start re-muting things one-by-one until you hit the correct setup by trial and error. Also, make sure that whatever userid is running mythtv is in the audio group. Check /etc/group to find out. |
This probably won't help you out but ...
My mythbox is very buggy - for instance sometimes when I start it up it says /dev/dsp busy or something like that - to remedy this I go to Utilities/setup -> Setup -> general and Utilities/setup -> Setup -> Media -> music ->general and just run through the screens clicking next and not changing anysettings. Don't know why but then /dev/dsp is not busy anymore and I can hear sound |
