mythtv cannot connect to backend

i am trying to connect a linux mythtv frontend running on fc20 to a mythtv backend running on fc21. is there anyone that can tell me why this is not working. i just upgraded the backend to 21 with the same set-up. i had them both on 20 and everything worked perfectly. now that it is an upgraded backend, i can no longer connect.

there are no firewalls and selinux is disabled on both...
