When I try to set a path name for a launcher in Fedora 10, the path name has a "Mike" directory 'home' that doesn't show in the 'ls' output.
Let me explain:
Here is the number of users in my /home directory
Code:
[root@FireCracker home]# ls -la
total 20
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 2008-12-30 14:47 .
drwxr-xr-x 21 root root 4096 2009-07-10 15:17 ..
drwx------ 33 bclanton bclanton 4096 2009-07-13 11:41 bclanton
drwx------ 4 mysql mysql 4096 2008-12-30 14:47 mysql
[root@FireCracker home]#
I am installing DBdesigner to 'reverse engineer' an entity relationship diagram for my Mysql database. I unpacked the DBdesigner tarball here:
Code:
[root@FireCracker DBDesigner4]# pwd
/home/bclanton/DBDesigner4
I actually couldn't get the program to work by initiating the startupdb file....it looks like it starts, but nothing happens:
Code:
[root@FireCracker DBDesigner4]# ./startdbd
Symbolic links exist
Starting DBDesigner4 ...
[root@FireCracker DBDesigner4]#
I am following the Linux instructions listed here:
http://www.fabforce.net/dbdesigner4/downloads.php
Since it didn't work, I tried to create a launcher (it was a shot in the dark) with the desktop startdb file in the bclanton directory:
Code:
[root@FireCracker DBDesigner4]# ls
Data DBDplugin_DataImporter Doc Linuxlib
DBDesigner4 DBDplugin_HTMLReport Examples startdbd
DBDesigner4.spec DBDplugin_SimpleWebFront Gfx startdbd.desktop
When I selected the startdb.desktop file when I righted clicked the Desktop and selected startdb.desktop file, the Properties tab shows this in the path statement:
Code:
/home/mike/../mike/DBDesigner4/startdbd
Who the heck is Mike! Again, here is the home file directory:
Code:
[root@FireCracker home]# ls -la
total 20
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 2008-12-30 14:47 .
drwxr-xr-x 21 root root 4096 2009-07-10 15:17 ..
drwx------ 33 bclanton bclanton 4096 2009-07-13 11:41 bclanton
drwx------ 4 mysql mysql 4096 2008-12-30 14:47 mysql
[root@FireCracker home]#
I have absolutely no idea what is happening here.
Anyone care to take a stab at this?
