Mysterious string is printed in Leafpad text editor

It began yesterday: every time I launch the Leafpad text editor, instead of a blank page, it launches with this string on the first line:

/usr/lib/sysstat/debian-sa1

I always launch Leafpad from an Openbox key shortcut:

Code:
<keybind key="W-n">
  <action name="Execute">
    <startupnotify>
      <enabled>true</enabled>
      <name>Editor</name>
    </startupnotify>
    <command>/usr/bin/leafpad</command>
  </action>
</keybind>
Upon inspecting that, I see nothing that could be causing it. Launching Leafpad from the Application menu or from the Run/Execute dialogue has the same effect.

Then it stopped. I don't know why.

I went to sleep, began a new day, and now the little poltergeist is back again.

Anybody here ever heard of anything like this? I didn't find anything on G.

TIA

"leafpad" is unsupported I think, last update was year 2009.
And 'leafpad' is no more available for many "Linux OS".

I have seen leafpad behave strange a couple of times with various OS / various window managers, and have switched to the similar supported mousepad, when issues appeared.
