You're unlikely to find a pre-built package. From the Mysql website, it appears you need at least glibc-2.2. You can try building it from source or installing one of the generic rpm packages, but I suspect you're going to chase your tail a lot. You may be able to upgrade all the needed dependencies.
But chances are you're better off upgrading the OS. If you like Red Hat, it makes sense to move to the latest CentOS platform. If you want to try something else stable and easy to upgrade between versions, you might consider Debian stable branch (currently Lenny). I know migrations are messy, but it may save you the most headache and time.
NOTE: I'm not an enterprise user and don't have a lot of experience with databases.
