Dear all,

i want to do mysql upgrade to version 4.0.12. currently, i have been using 3.23. i've found that upgrading mysql is not an easy task. i am quite a newbie. i've been searching thru the net and found this
http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/Upgrading-from-3.23.html
but then, i have no idea on this "mysql_fix_privilege_tables". what is the hell? Does anybody out there manage to do the fine upgrading?

Upgrade by exporting and re-importing

If you don't have too much databases, you can export and re-import the data in version 4.

Make an export (or backup ) of the databases with
mysqldump -u root -p database name > database name .sql

You might want to check in the text file, which kind of table you are creating (ISAM no more supported looks like) but only MyISAM...

To import in MySQL 4 create the databases and run each database name .sql file in the sql window ( interfaces like phpMyAdmin )

actually, i have been installed mysql 4.0.12 from rpm.
before this, i uninstalled mysql3.23 and perl-DBD-mysql.
then, i straight to the installation.
after the installation, i find that i can login to mysql but then, i can't use the client programs such mysqlhotcopy and mysqldump.
it compliants that i don't have perl-DBD-Mysql.
i been looking thru internet for a suitable perl-DBD-Mysql rpm that will suit mysql 4.0.12. there arent any of rpms suit mysql4.0.12. all of them are suited for mysql 3.23.
then, i make a decision to go back for mysql 3.23, bcz at least i can manage to use my client tools for backup database. headache! how am i going to proceed?? i am stucked......
i read on the documentation of mysql, i have to run some sort of script before the installation. then, i downloaded the source and look for that scripts. and then, i run it. the result is more painful. it yields a bunch of errors which, for me, are meaningless...
i believe that there are ppl manage to upgrade mysql. pls guide me... this is pretty urgent.... pls help.... I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!
