Question MySQL root permissions deleted

I am having a MySQL problem. I accidentaly deleted root's permission, so now I can't add or modify databases or users. What should I do to recover the permissions?

Any help would be appreciated.

well, you could try setting a new password by going to your mysql directory (mine is /usr/local/mysql/bin/) then try this command:
Code:
./mysqladmin password <your password here>
Of course you change <your password here> with the password you want.

Good luck.

Unhappy

When I use that command I get this error.

Quote:
[root@main ~]# cd /usr/bin
[root@main bin]# ./mysqladmin password <mypassword>
./mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)'

I did change the '<mypassword>' by the way. Any more suggestions?

I'm going to guess he forgot to put his new password in between 's like 'new password'.

I was having other problems too, so I completely removed MySQL. Now, I am no longer having that problem, but others.
