MYSQL Reports

Coming from a Windows and xbase background. I want to be able to run small databases in Linux similar to what I could od with Dbase, Paradox or Access. MYSQL seems to be the choice of relational databases and I can get around in there slowly. But what does one do for report writer. Do I have to use a 3rd party product. IS there a crystal report alternative for Linux?. How about if I want to output some labels from the database. OpenOffice Org does not seem to have any easy method of talking to MYSQL.
Any suggestions?

Nevrona Rave Reports are supposed to work with Linux. A copy of 4.5 came on a separate disc with my copy of Borland's Kylix 3, but I have never been able to get it to install.

This is VERY easy to do with Open Office 1.1

You need to install 1.1 OpenOffice, Java, mysql-connector-java-3.0.9-stable. These allows printing of Avery Labels and all the various types like visiting cards and so forth. No problem.

Printing from Linux

Thanks, Buttersoft. Does it work as easily from Postgres, which is what I'm using (in addition to SQLite)? I'll try it in December for labels, but more immediately I need to replace the stock portfolio reports I used to do in Delphi using Paradox tables; had tdo quit because, having already decided to get rid of Windows, it broke down and wouldn't reinstall. Postgres is much better than Pdox tables, but printing to OO from it is something of a pain. I'm trying to adapt ReportBuilder from Delphi but keep finding files missing, (especially .dcu).

It can handle ODBC/JDBC/MySQL/Adabas/Dbase thos are the main choices. I have not used Postgres.

Paradox on windows was brilliant. I had everything in that up to the point of switching to Linux 6-8 months ago.

OO 1.1. and Mysql work very well together.

Another thing for you to try Knoda that connects to Postgres.

Another thing for you to try :- http://www.ems-hitech.com/pgmanager/

I use the MySQLManager from EMS and it is a brilliant report-generator to many formats, perhaps their Postgres Manager is for you the solution?

Thanks! I've just donwloaded it. Can't really afford the $95 right now, but maybe by the time the 30 days are up . . .

buttersoft 01-20-2004 02:45 PM

Bet you like it enough after 30 days! I lasted about 12 with the mySQL version. It is VERY useful. If my memory serves me correctly they have programmed it with Delphi....interesting.

I have installed it but haven't been able to make it connect. I have no trouble connecting with psql, the postgres command line interface.
