MySQL question

This is weird:

[root@gloverbo dl]# rpm -Uvh MySQL-3.23.52-1.i386.rpm
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
1:MySQL ########################################### [100%]
Installing all prepared tables
020822 19:30:24 /usr/sbin/mysqld: Shutdown Complete

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SET A PASSWORD FOR THE MySQL root USER !
This is done with:
/usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root password 'new-password'
/usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h gloverbo password 'new-password'
See the manual for more instructions.

NOTE: If you are upgrading from a MySQL <= 3.22.10 you should run
the /usr/bin/mysql_fix_privilege_tables. Otherwise you will not be
able to use the new GRANT command!

Please report any problems with the /usr/bin/mysqlbug script!

The latest information about MySQL is available on the web at
http://www.mysql.com
Support MySQL by buying support/licenses at https://order.mysql.com

Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql

[root@gloverbo dl]# which mysqladmin
/usr/bin/which: no mysqladmin ....

Anybody know why its telling me to use files that do not exist?

nope, sorry it's not weird... you've just not installed the server rpm to go with the common pacakge. ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/redhat/7.3/e....49-3.i386.rpm

i don't know where you got that rpm from though, you should stick to official redhat rpms (maybe yours is, but it's not on rpmfind.net) and make sure you have EXACTLY the same release versions for them.

acid, thanks a lot for the response. I downloaded the file from MySQL.com
I saw the "SQL" link in the right column. It was not apparent to me that I would need to download anything else. THanks, I'll check into this further. I was rather frustrated for a moment...

I grabbed the mysql packages from a Red Hat mirror - much easier this time around and everything appears to be setup correctly.
