mysql problem RH9

hi

i've got mysql and php working RH9

but i now need to create a database with a username and password...

1. i cant seem to get it to work because mysql doesnt require a password to enter it whether i'm logged in as root or not.

2. i'm trying to get phpBB2 working you see and it seems the config.php script looks for a username and password...............

thanks

i got it working and now its not again zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

if i go to mysql_setpermission it asked for a user password so i typed the root one and it came up access denied?

then after that i couldnt do any sql stuff..........????????? i'm re installing now
