MySQL install problems

I'm trying to install MySQL onto my Slackware8 server. I downloaded it, ran the tar command on it and added a user mysql on the system.I ran the scripts/mysql_db_install
but when I did /usr/local/support-files/mysql.server start it said to me, invalid hostname "darkstar". It also mentioned something about about could not connect to "darkstar" host. So, how do i get mysql running?

The network interface is up? You need at least loopback (127.0.0.1)

The command to check this:

ifconfig -a

HTHaL

vfs

here's the exact error message. can someone help plz!

Sorry, the host 'Darkstar' could not be looked up.
Please configure the 'hostname' command to return a correct hostname.
If you want to solve this at a later stage, restart this script with
the --force option

Ive tried the force option but that doesn't work either.
