Mysql install error in RH9 -undefined reference to errno

I started installing Mysql in my machine.
There is some error

make[2]: Entering directory `/usr/local/mysql-3.23.36/client'
/bin/sh ../libtool --mode=link c++ -O3 -DDBUG_OFF -fno-implicit-templates -rdynamic -o mysql mysql.o readline.o sql_string.o completion_hash.o ../readline/libreadline.a -lncurses ../libmysql/ -lz -lcrypt -lnsl -lm
c++ -O3 -DDBUG_OFF -fno-implicit-templates -rdynamic -o .libs/mysql mysql.o readline.o sql_string.o completion_hash.o ../readline/libreadline.a -lncurses ../libmysql/.libs/ -lz -lcrypt -lnsl -lm -lz -lcrypt -lnsl -lm -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/usr/local/lib/mysql
../libmysql/.libs/ undefined reference to `errno'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [mysql] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/mysql-3.23.36/client'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/mysql-3.23.36'
make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2

What might be the problem
Some of them are telling in the mailing list to upgrade MYSQL
But I am in need of the same version mysql-3.23.36

Thanks in advance for your help
