Unhappy mysql EOF error on install on RH9

I am trying to install MYSQL on an RH9 box and keep getting the following error:

gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data --format violated
tar: unexpected EOF in archive
tar : unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

I have already added the user and group neccessary for the install and the directory /usr/loca/mysql does exist. I am kind of stumped on this one.
Any help would be great.
Thanks.

I think you need to elaborate a bit. What file are you trying to install and how are you trying to install it. The details you provided just aren't enough to properly diagnose the problem.
