mysql disk is full

My /var/lib/mysql disk is full so mysql wont start. Can I move or delete files in that directory so I can get mysql to start? The software that is using mysql should have removed the older files but it didn't so I ran out of space.

You probably have too many database backups, it is safe to remove some.

Also, it is a very good idea to use LVM = Logical Volume Management on any SQL database drive, so that you can add space to the storage pool from a new or other drive.

First you need to check what files are there.
If you do have some Sw that should haver cleaned up, then maybe you can run it manually or look at the src/help to see what files it deletes.
Do NOT just delete random files ...

Thanks for the help. I found some old BAK files that I deleted to get about 18G free. Mysql is running now. I think its time to call the vendor.
