MySQL DB to catalog and manage music record collection

Hi all!

I have been collecting music records (especially vinyls) for a while now and I have gathered quite a lot of them. As you probably know, there are literally hundreds of them out there, with most of them having variants (such as from a different editor, different country or simply there are several versions on the market). Dozens of websites are "cataloging" these thousands records and have throughout the years gathered quite a bit of info, but none of them have all under the "same roof".

I am NOT collecting records for all types of music, only metal therefore I think what I want to do is "doable". I actually started gathering all the info in a excel spreadsheet, but its not easy to insert new info and update/search, and it does not have reporting features such as how many records I am missing in a single release, etc..

So I am either searching for a ready solution (either a binary or a libreoffice/openoffice database), a Java based solution, or if there are nothing like that available, build my own thing with MySQL as the database backend. For the frontend, I have NO clue!!

So anybody have done that before/are interested?
Thanks!

PHP/MySQL would do the trick for you but you would need to have the knowledge to be able to create the queries you need to get the info you want.

Yeah PHP coding would be nice but it's currently a bit above my capabilities .. you wouldn't be aware of a project like that by any chance? ?
