Mysql Compilation/Package Finding

I was having some problems with PHP and Apache and it turns out my version of PHP doesnt support MYSQL. I was told i could either get a package that did or compile it myself. Now i have downloaded the sorurce in the tar.gz file but it would be easier to have a package with support build in. Does any of you know where i could get a package with MYSQL support?

If thats not possible, how do you compile a version of PHP with Mysql support?

normally the interaction functionality is provided in a dedicated pacakge, e.g. php-mysql rahter than php itself. If you can't find a package like this then bulding php from source should *i think* just be a case of passing the relevant options to it via ./configure.
