MySQL command prompt (/usr/local/mysql missing)

I installed Rh 8 but it had MySQL 3.23.X.
So i uninstalled and installed MySQL 4.0.1-2 by MySQL-4.0.1-2.i336.rpm.
It all went fine and i DB server is up and running.
but i couldnt find the directory /usr/local/mysql, so if i had to run the mysql command prompt how do get it?
do i have to install MySQL-client ?. i some where studied that if we install the whole package then client is also included in that. is that true?

many thanks,
sankar

I'm not sure but you most likely should install the client packages. The client is what gives you the mysql> prompt and allows you to create tables etc...
