mysql-client upgrade from 4.0/4.1 to 5.1
 

I have a set of linux servers(debian/redhat) that I use to run perl/php scripts for some data processing purpose.
Some of them have mysql-client 4.0 and others have 4.1.
I need to upgrade to the mysql client 5.1 but I do not want to proceed with rpm/deb packages.
I looked for the mysql-client tarballs at mysql.com, community download section, but I only found rpms
the only tarball availabel is a bulky 100Mb containing mysql-server full install files.
Could any body point me where to find tarballs for mysql-client 5.1
