mysql and gui tools pre-installed?
 

Anyone know of a distro that includes mysql and the gui tools, specifically mysql-query-browser, pre-installed and ready to go?

Mysql comes with many distros on the installation cds. However, it's probably not part of the default installation.

In that case, you have two choices:

1) during installation, choose custom installation, and select the packages you want installed.

2) after making a default installation, use the distros package management tools to select additional packages from installation cds.

Thanks, I've been using kubuntu. Mysql was not a default installation, as you say, but I did manage to install it ok and the mysql> shell works fine. Unfortunately, synaptic only gets an older version of mysql-query-browser that blows up if you try to create a table.

The newer gui's are in a bundle together at mysql.com. I managaed to mash that all up.

I've wasted days on this. Too bad their's no disto with mysql part of the default.

:confused: From experience, RH and Slackware come with MySQL.
As far as I can remember, if you select a full or a server install in RH, it will be installed by default. For Slackware it might require the 'ticking' of one checkbox (can't remember although the last 4 installs that I did we're Slackware installs including MySQL).

I can't talk for the others, but I'm sure that a number of others (FC and Debian and probably Suse come to mind) also come with it. Again, probably on checkbox to 'tick' and it will be installed.

(K)ubuntu is intended to be a desktop distro. I assume that that's the reason why there's no MySQL included.

With regards to the additional tools, I don't know. I don't use them.
