Mmmmm, don't know about this problem, but have you ever thought in any other distro??
IMHO, Mandrake just sucks, get Fedora Core 2, it's just as friendly as Mandrake, but has A LOT less problems.

Use Mandrake 9.2 instead of Mandrake 10.x versions. I had trouble with Mandrake 10 when compiling programs, so I moved to Slackware 10. I think it was gcc version 3.4 that is messing up compiling programs. I do not recommend Linux novice users to install Slackware because it has a lot of huge bumps that an intermediate or expert can go over very easily.

If you are moving to another distribution like Fedora Core 2, Redhat's open source community version, backup your files. Diskdruid is not fool proof, so you will need to concentrate what disk you are making partitions because it writes to the partition table instantly. Diskdruid does not have an undo option. Mandrake has a lot more fool proof way to setup partitions by using tabs and it waits for you say go ahead writing to the partition.
