using a 7NIF2 Motherboard with integrated LAN

the windows driver for it is
Nvidia nForvce MCP network adapter

I'm new to Linux and have just installed Fedora

any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks for the information. It looks as if this motherboard is a nForce 2. From the Chaintech website ->
Chipset

* NVIDIA nForce2 IGP + nForce2 MCP

Just read the information and follow the instructions. I don't have this type of chipset, and I'm not using RedHat. You may want to check our RedHat forum and see if there's anything posted there. However, I believe reading the README - HTML Version file at the Nvidia site will give you all the information you need.

# lspci

The # means that in the bash shell you are running as su (superuser). I have never seen Fedora, but open a terminal. If you have it available, xterm will do just fine. If you've logged in as a normal user, which you should have done, your prompt will be a $ and all you need to do is type su and then give it your root password. Then at the # type lspci and post that here.

Just a minor error on your part. The lspci command starts with a lower case L. You could copy and paste from the post into your terminal if that would help. I believe it stands for list pci.

So that we have some information, while you're in Windoze and actually online, try to find out how you're connected to the internet. You can just double-click on your little computer icon in the system tray and click on your nic and then double-click on TCP/IP and see if it says to detect automatically, or if there are numbers entered. If there are, then write them down. Forgive the lack of technical jargon, but I don't know your level of knowledge. You'll let us know if you need more help, though.

know how for windows is excellent but this is my first day with Linux. i got a feeling my windows background will be more of a harm than a help

Did you enter lspci as root the way I suggested? I'm not familiar with Fedora, but I can't imagine that it doesn't have this command. If it really doesn't, dump it and get Slack :D

Especially post #10. I'd really like to see you have a pleasant experience with *nix. I've used Windoze for many years; and I presently build and repair computers. I've had a belly full of Micro$loth, and am migrating to Linux. I'm getting Wine setup right now to use PageMaker under Slackware. It's one of the programs I need, that seems to have no replacement in open source software.

Second, what does your nick mean? I've got an idea, but one thing I've learned from living in China. Don't think you can figure something out just by looking.

problems not fixed yet but found out why i had 2 cards showing. I had installed a few at the xdsl connect wizard when none showed at the start and never uninstalled the last 1 i tried


i did the ppp0 thing the other post said now i get this message when i click the activate or connect button


its in a red hat-config-network (window)

cannot activate network device ppp0

o and a mmolrpg is a massive multi-player on-line role playing game
