I spent a few weeks not using mutt. Then I decided to use it again and... all the messages have disappeared from the Inbox folder. They are still there, I can see them with Claws-mail. I can also browse the contents of any other folder in Mutt, just like I used to. Only the Inbox folder is reported as empty when it shouldn't be.
"Are you using an mbox or Maildir format?"
I believe it's MH, because Claws does not support Maildir, and I dislike mbox. All folders, including Inbox, have an .mh_sequences file.
"Can you see the message files/directories in your file manager or from the command line with ls?"
Yes, I can. Each message has its own file. It's probably MH.
"Have you verified that your .muttrc file points to the correct mail store?"
set folder="$HOME/Mail"
I'm sure I haven't changed either the .muttrc file or the ~/Mail location, so I believe it's correct. Otherwise, why would Mutt find all other folders and not Inbox? For example,
I don't have a clue as to what the problem may be. I am not using Mutt at the moment, but I used it for the better part of three years. In case it might help, I'm posting the relevant section from my own .muttrc:
Code:
set mbox_type=Maildir
set spoolfile=~/Maildir/
set folder=~/Maildir/
set record="$HOME/Maildir/sent/" #sent mail is saved here
set delete=yes #delete without prompting
set include=yes #quote msg in reply
set fast_reply=yes #no prompting on reply
set beep=no #no noise
set markers=no #no + on wrapped lines
set confirmappend=no #no prompt for save to =keep
set to_chars=" +TCF" #no L for mail_list
set postponed=$Home/Maildir/postponed/
# default inbox (can add more in ~/.muttrc)
(snip list of individual mailboxes that were populated via procmail)
