When i try to start Mutt i get....."Error opening terminal: xterm"
I read through the configuration manuals, but the solution isn't there. I'm thinking that Mutt knows to open xterm, since maybe thats the default terminal, however, it doesn't have the location of the bin.
Just to ask the obvious question, do you have xterm installed on your system?
Another obvious question: since mutt is a command-line mail client, and xterm is a X-system terminal window display program, were you running a X-server?
Since it seems strange to me that mutt would default to a windowing terminal emulator if you weren't running from inside a GUI, here's a third obvious question: Have you tried mutt from a non-gui tty. (On most distributions you can get to a non-gui login by <ctrl-alt-F3>. Actually, <ctrl-alt> and any function key of 6 or less, but 1 and 2 are often in use by root. Function key 7 through 0 will usually show your X-server screens.)
Ok, i just tried to invoke mutt from init 3, and i still get an error......."Error Opening Terminal: Linux"
Well i thought mutt needs a terminal emulator to function, so how can it operate in tty3? Although, however, a dependency of Mutt is Ncurses, which is a library framework for developers to write text based apps, so if thats the case, doesn't Mutt require a gui terminal?
The point of ncurses is to simulate a windowing system using the simple ANSI characters and cursor movement commands available on CRT terminals. Thus, using ncurses is how you can get "old fashioned" windows on a "tty" screen. (Tty in quotes because a "tty" is a "teletype" which just prints characters directly on paper.) So the error message you're getting probably doesn't mean what you think it means.
